Our story
what we do
THE STUDIO HAS BEEN A MAJOR STOPPING POINT FOR MUSICIANS, FILMMAKERS, PRODUCTION HOUSES AND ARTISTS, BOTH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL OVER THE YEARS.
Tunefork was the launching pad for some of the most prominent local and regional talents. We have recorded and produced albums in styles ranging from contemporary and classical oriental to indie rock, electronic, experimental, jazz, pop and everything in between. We are fully equipped to host up to 9 musicians at the same time and we can record analogue (tape or reel-to-reel) or on-location.
We are often called to do live sound to concerts around the city, and we have been working closely with Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music (since 2010), Wickerpark Festival (since 2016), and more recently Beirut and Beyond Festival for live sound and technical direction.
We have contributed to Lebanese and international films, whether recording, mixing, sound design or composition, working with directors such as Joanna and Khalil Joreige, Mounia Akl, George Barbara, Nadim Tabet, Raed and Rania el Arfei, Joanna and Khalil Joreige, Matts Grorud…
We’ve also collaborated with artists such as Larissa Sansour, Tania El Khoury, Petra Serhal, Lamia Joreige, among others, on sound installations at various cultural centers and museums, in Lebanon and abroad.
keeping the local music scene alive
tunefork has always strived to discover and support emerging talent, and pushing for more creativity in the local scene.
We have always supported local acts and upcoming bands, partnering with Radio Liban for their competition in 2006, which Mashrou’ Leila won, and Beirut Open Stage’s competitions from 2013-2016 where Postcards, Gizzmo/Pomme Rouge, Safar and many more local acts got their start. Winners got to record their first-ever song at the studio.
More recently, we managed the sound and technical aspect of Beirut Open Space until its closure in July 2018, and we oversaw Sofar Sounds Beirut’s technical direction between January and October 2019, when it also stopped.
We are proud of our collaboration with Ruptured and Ziad Nawfal over the years: from helping manage the label until 2018, to recording the live in-studio sessions for their show on Radio Liban, which produced the 6 ‘Ruptured Sessions’ albums featuring the most prominent acts from the underground scene between 2006 and 2013.
from studio to community
tunefork has grown into a community of musicians and artists with shared ethics and beliefs, committed to creating art above all else
Production has always been free of charge of Tunefork, because we believe that knowledge is free, and should be shared by all.
Following the devastating August 4 explosion, our team established the Beirut Musicians’ Fund, which helped gather over $70,000 to support musicians and sound engineers who had lost their gear/instruments, venues who needed help to rebuild, music students struggling to cover lessons, and a buzuk maker whose raw material was becoming unaffordable.
Between 2020 and 2023, and in light of the recent economic and financial collapse in Lebanon, we offered a “pay as you want” option for local artists/musicians who are unable to afford full studio services.
Meet the team
After finishing his studies in sound engineering in Montreal, Lebanese musician/producer Fadi Tabbal returned to Beirut in 2006 and founded Tunefork Studios. It has since grown into a collective of musicians, engineers and producers.
